Privacy Policy

Fettle ("the app", "we") is built and operated by Stewart Burton. This policy explains what data Fettle collects, why, and what happens to it. The short version: your inventory is yours, we collect the minimum needed to run the service, we do not sell data, and we do not run ads or ad tracking.

What we collect

Account data. Your email address and a password. The password is stored only as a salted hash - we cannot read it.

Your inventory. The tool records you create: names, brands, models, serial numbers, purchase details, notes, storage locations, loan records, maintenance history, and the photos you attach. This is the product - it exists so you can see it, search it, and export it.

Identification photos. When you use photo identification, the photo you submit is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to recognise the tool. Under Anthropic's commercial API terms, these inputs are not used to train their models. We do not send your name or email with the photo.

Purchase status. If you subscribe to Fettle Pro, the app store (Apple or Google) processes the payment. We receive and store a purchase receipt token and the subscription's validity dates so we can unlock Pro features. We never see your card details.

What we do NOT collect. No location tracking, no contacts, no advertising identifiers, no third-party ad SDKs, and as of this policy's effective date no analytics SDK. If we add privacy-respecting product analytics later, this policy will be updated first.

Android launch waitlist

When you press the join button beside the one-email consent notice, we collect your email address, signup time, chosen language, whether you used the homepage popup or Android page, and the version of the consent wording. When the launch email is sent, we also record when it was sent and the delivery provider's message reference, so nobody is emailed twice. We use this only to send one email when Fettle is publicly available on Android. We will not send progress or availability updates. This consent is separate from general marketing; joining does not create an account or subscribe you to general advertising. We do not send your email address to analytics.

The list is stored in Cloudflare D1. Your IP address is used only for short-lived abuse prevention in Cloudflare KV (one hour after the last attempt), not stored with your signup. Your browser stores a successful-signup flag, a seven-day dismissal timestamp and a session flag to avoid repeatedly opening the popup; these contain no email address and are not tracking identifiers.

You can withdraw consent or request access, correction or removal by emailing support@fettle.tools from the registered address. No account or paid plan is required. Deleting a Fettle account also removes any waitlist entry with the same email address. We delete the list within 90 days of the public Android launch, or delete individual entries after 12 months if launch has not happened. The launch email will include removal instructions. The launch email is sent through Resend, our email delivery provider, which processes your address only to deliver that one email.

Where it lives

Data is stored on Cloudflare's infrastructure (D1 database, R2 object storage for photos) and encrypted in transit (HTTPS everywhere). The app keeps a local copy of your recent inventory on your device so it stays readable offline; signing out clears it.

Who we share it with

Nobody, except the processors needed to run the service: Cloudflare (hosting and storage), Anthropic (photo identification only, as above), Resend (email delivery: password reset codes and the one Android launch email), and Apple or Google (subscription billing). We do not sell or rent your data. We would disclose data if legally compelled to.

Lending reminders are composed on your device and handed to WhatsApp only when you choose to share one - we never message anyone, and WhatsApp is not integrated into the service.

Affiliate links

Some product suggestions in Fettle open retailer websites through affiliate links; we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no cost to you. Those retailers see only that you followed a link - none of your inventory data is shared with them.

Your controls

• Export: you can export your full inventory from the app at any time.
• Deletion: delete your account any time from Settings in the app - this removes your account record, inventory, and photos from our systems. Backups age out on Cloudflare's standard cycle.
• Contact: support@fettle.tools for any privacy question or request.

Children

Fettle is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the effective date above changes and the app will point to the new version. Continued use after a change means you accept it.
